Isle of Wight Austins were established by our Viv Orchard in February 1996 and are one of the most active Austin owners groups in the UK.
We welcome into membership all who own an Austin vehicle, intend to get one, or have been involved with them in any way - for example owned or worked on them.
We are a flourishing group of Island enthusiasts who have an interest in Austin motorcars, together with commercial vehicles and other equipment built under the Austin name. This interest also covers vehicles made under licence from the Austin Motor Company, for example BMW Dixi, American Austin, Rosengart and Bantam.
Why the Austin? Well, so many prewar cars of this marque have survived, and they are relatively cheap to purchase, run and maintain. In fact they live up to the company’s advertising slogan of the day, ‘As reliable as an Austin’. Another attraction is the extensive model range and the many different body styles associated with each model.
Over the years, Austins have contributed much to the development of motor vehicles of today. The A30/35 and Mini are typical derivations of the Austin Seven. Other marques such as Jaguar, BMW, Lotus, Holden and the Jeep have evolved from the humble Austin Seven.
We meet every Sunday at Arreton Barns at 10am and hold a monthly meeting at Arreton Village Hall. Full details of forthcoming meetings can be found in the Events section.
Our activities are co-ordinated by a steering group consisting of a Chairman, Secretary , Treasurer and the Events Organising team.
Contact details are found in the contact us section of this website.
